My 4 month old puppy had the salmon fresh pet tube and no has bloody dihareea as well. After 48 hours still has diharrea. Having him on boiled chicken now and meds to see if that helps.

This food is not safe to consume right now

My friend, who lives in Houston, told me that she bought Freshpet beef a few days ago for her dogs and they got sick, vomited and had diarrhea. I live in Dallas and was concerned, so I checked and found out that many bags in the Dallas and Houston areas were returned to two grocery stores and one pet food retailer because the bags were obviously "swollen" even though the "sell by" dates were well within the limit for consumable food (5/14/2019 or 5/30/2019).

When observing the bags myself in one grocery store, I noticed some looked swollen and pointed this out to the on-duty manager. The refrigerator temperature was correct. However, he removed the swollen bags from the refrigerator immediately. I told my friend in Houston about this.

She returned her food to the store where she purchased it and got a refund. Obviously, checking these reviews, she was not the first to return Freshpet to the retailer.

In my opinion, this is not just one store or one pet parent, it is multiple grocery stores and pet food stores in Texas, maybe other states. I would not purchase any of this food until the source of the problem is identified and resolved.

11 year old dog dangerously sick

Switched small yorkie to dog joy treats and fresh pet grain free months ago- because he chews on his paws legs figured it was allergy. He’s been up for 2 nights this week incredibly ill when I tried to feed either he walks away. He used to love it- clearly by reviews it’s turned into mass produced, nonsense filled garbage.

Sick for five days now

We bought my Pomeranian some Fresh Pet as a treat for his 11th birthday. We have given it to him before without any issue. Two days after we opened the bag he started vomiting profusely, then developed diarrhea. I’ve never seen him throw up so much. My husband immediately threw the fresh pet away when it started. I keep thinking he is better but again this morning there was diarrhea all over the floor. His vomiting has stopped and he is drinking water and is fairly perky but looks emancipated from not eating and throwing up all weekend. He is on brown rice now. I feel so lucky after reading some of these reviews. We will never buy it again.

Sick puppy

I just bought a bag of Freshpet Chicken for small dogs and fed it to my dog for the first time on Friday. She loved it and gobbled it right up. But a couple of hours later, she threw up the entire meal. I had not connected her sickness to the food at that point. So, I gave her more at dinner and a couple of hours later, she threw up her entire meal again. Then I thought maybe it was because I needed to introduce the food more slowly. The next morning, I put a small amount in with her regular food. It took about 5 hours this time before she started throwing up again. I threw the entire bag away and will never feed this to my dog again. But, I thought this was so strange that I googled reviews to see if I could find others that have experienced the same thing. Looks like this brand has a major problem with the safety of their products.

I fed my 3 months old puppy this garbage for about 2 weeks. I couldn’t figure out what was causing his bloated stomach, vomiting and itchy skin.

I took him to the vet and they sent me home with shampoo for allergies, Benadryl and told me it was normal for puppies to get a big tummy after eating. My dog would eat, then throw up, he looked so unhappy.

I stopped feeding him Fresh Pet and 24 hours later he was fine. Never again got a bloated stomach and his itching stoped right then.

After eating FreshPet, my dog stopped breathing and was unable to stand. I finally got him breathing again and he threw up the food.

Bad dog food

I have been making homemade dog food but I decided to try Freshpet. It looked similar to what I make but looked healthier. I feed it to my 10 month old pug. After a couple days he was vomiting a few times then tonight he had diarrhea with blood in it. Going back to my homemade dog food.

This crap damn near killed my Yorkies!!

Freshpet - This crap damn near killed my Yorkies!!

I waited a while before saying anything here for 2 reasons. 1) i wanted to validate what i was saying.

2) I didn't want to rage rant. We couldn't figure out what what was making our Yorkies sick. After several Vet appointments we came home to (pics i will post below) what looked like a crime scene. So we go to the Vet, had to give medication and switch dog food to what our Vet recommended.

We also had to have several dental cleanings and ta couple pulled and some kind of coating put on our smaller yorkies teeth. I wouldn't feed that crap to my worse enemy, but i sure as *** would serve it up to every employee there like a Christmas buffet. Then recently there was some article i started reading and they introduced "a specialist from Fresh Pet" I laughed and then just dismissed the validity of the entire article what a joke! Immediate disgust came over me.

In the pics I put a ruler next to the vomit and blood so that my Vet could get an accurate idea of the amount that came from my little Yorkie. Btw, since we have changed their food we haven't had anything else like this happen again and they have been active and happy.

Several days after eating chicken turkey roll, my best friend experienced diarrhea and vomiting. He was a young Chihuahua. I miss him terribly. No one can say it wasn't the food. There are way too many posts about the same symptoms. Shame on Freshpet.

The issue was never resolved. I want the company to acknowledge there is something wrong with their food.

What I reading is the food is affecting smaller breeds of dogs.

Something must be done. I've also read so many posts on Facebook Please take this seriously.

Sick dog

Freshpet - Sick dog
I buy the fresh pet vital for my 3 dogs weekly. This past Friday I bought bag liek normal. I came home later after feeding my pups to find vomit. We were unsure of which one it was so we kept an eye. Next morning I find more vomit. Still unsure nothing we could do. Later last night I come home to find my lab on the ground not really reacting, dehydrated and vomit and drool everywhere. We go to the vet and are told it’s probably something she got into. So she’s on antibiotics. My wife asks me to check the date on the bag and I do. January 19, 2018 was the sole by date. It’s Sept 23, 2018. I call my vet and she says that’s definitely the cause. I go to Petco and the manager was amazing and was concerned. She said they just received a shipment Friday morning from Freshpet. She goes to give me a new bag and we start checking the sole by date: 2 more of th chicken and turkey bags have been expired since January that they just received. I grabbed a fresh bag with a sold by date of December of 2018 and she (the manager) starts pulling bag after bag roll after roll of expired food. When I got there Friday the fridge was full and today was almost empty. After reading these reviews I’m not worried. I have 2 other dogs that show no symptoms as of right now. How can this company do this? How do you ship 8 months of expired food in bulk to a major food chain like Petco and not know. Have you heard of quality control? I’m sorry for all the losses but now I know to keep everything. You should be ashamed of yourself for poisoning dogs foods such as that. People have lost animals because of your negligence. My vet is amazing but if something more happens to my pups, be ready for a major war in court.

The worst customer service

I called to tell you how great fresh pet has been and what it has done for my 17 year old dog and you sent me through a complicated procedure of contacting you and then you send me emails that I am a "pissed consumer". What type of company handles calls like that. Then I got through to someone who immediately disconnected me and then I called back got a recording left my name and number and that was 3 days ago and still have not received a call back to just tell you how great I thought fresh pet is. You even posted my response to you under pissed consumer. You really need to look at the way you handle customer phone calls. I have been a very happy customer for almost 13 or 14 years and now my entire attitude about your company has changed.

PETSMART

I just got off the phone with PetSmart....I've bought the bison mix fresh pet for my dog and he loves it. Since the Chicken recipe was on sale, I thought I'd try it. My dog is throwing up, eating grass and has no interest in eating this food anymore....I'm gone back to making my own dogfood....screw this *** They denied any complaints....

My girls love it!

Freshpet - My girls love it!
My 10 and 15 year old Chihuahuas love it. My 15 year old is prone to colitis so I grate it in a cheese grater to avoid any chance that chunks might irritate her colon. but I have noticed it is that it goes bad very quickly if I try to grate more than a day or two in a ziplock bag . that low temperature cooking really makes me wonder about the bacteria level that would make it turn bad in just a short time the bag is out of the fridge to scoop out a half cup each and then directly back into a 40 degree fridge. But then at the same time a dog is a dog and it will eat *** or puke so who's to say but it was that will really make them sick or kill them. About 6 years ago I talked to the lady who founded freshpet I can tell she is a true animal lover and makes every effort to turn out of quality healthy products. I wish they would make a high fiber diabetic dog food as well!

I am starting to get concerns about Fresh Pet food, my dog started it around 6 months ago. He loved it.

Everything was great. After a little while he wasn't as interested in the food more and more, which meant the food could be in the bowl for 5-25 minutes before he might of eaten it, so in cases like this i would have to put it back in the fridge so it didn't go off. Even when it's been left out for 5 minutes, it completely loses it's 'meaty' smell and all of a sudden it smells like something rotten. How does something lose it's meaty smell in 5 minutes?

This concerns me, i feel like they are putting something in it to make it smell nice to trick the animal it is good quality. I think i will be moving my pet away from Fresh pet very soon.
