Fresh pet is dangerous recall

Well I just left the veterinarian hospital my dog has had all the same symptoms throwing up diarrhea blood in the diarrhea and what is this amount to its from this *** food apparently since they had the recall in 2015 they haven't improved their standards because dogs are getting sick again this is ridiculous and I'm praying to God that I caught this in time and that my dog is going to have a complete recovery for this

Fresh Pet caused my dog diarrhea and vomiting and cost me close to $1,000 in vet fees by the time I finally figured out it was the damn food. How are these people allowed to continue marketing this product on TV and selling it to unsuspecting consumers when they KNOW it has this affect on so many pets? Totally irresponsible!

Same issue here with Fresh Pet. My dog is at emergency vet, terrible diarrhea, throwing up, can’t keep water down, dehydrated.

Will never ever buy this again.

Not sure if we have gotten a bad batch because she ate it for a few months, seemingly without a problem. But for the last few weeks, mild diarrhea on and off until the last few days when things turned very bad.

Same situation. All was fine for months and then bad diarrhea.

One good thing I learned, besides stopping to feed my Pug the shredded version in a bag, is to buy this powdered pumpkin powder. It stopped the diarrhea.

I'm having the same problem that others have listed on this Comment Board. I purchased Freshpet last Thursday evening.

Gave it to my dog on Friday. Noticed on Sunday that she had very soft, not well formed. stools during her afternoon walk.

Today (Tuesday) she had a runny diarrhea attack. I'm headed to the store for a refund.

I am having the same problem. Severe mucousy diarrhea.

I returned the 4.5 bag and got a refund. I called the company to warn them that the product smells bad and causing diarrhea.

They sent a coupon. My dog does fine with rhe solid form of the product, but the store was out of it, so I bought another bag of the shredded type and he has severe diarrhea again.

My 10 year old golden has not had a normal bowel movement in weeks. We decided to take her off of FreshPet for a while and give her rice and chicken made at home.

She started getting better and we re-introduced Fresh Pet.

She immediately relapsed. We are back to bowel rest and are looking for another food.

This dog food seems nothing more than processed bologna. I’ve fed my 4 year old GSD Raw food since he was weened.

He’s the healthiest dog we have ever seen and never never had a single day of diarrhea (all his life!) UNTIL we added some beef FreshPet. Within a couple days of eating this (mixed with his regular raw food, he had urgent greasy runs of diarrhea. We foolishly added FreshPet because we were running low on his Raw Food mix made by his breeder. I can’t imagine people feeding this processed stuff as a staple food for their pets.

We could not be more disappointed and obviously we feel foolish for purchasing this stuff and betrayed by FreshPet’s claims. If your dog has diarrhea 90% of the time it is what he is eating!

My dog got massive liquid diarrhea for 3 days straight aftering eating fresh pets for small dogs.

Make your own.. boil chicken breasts and add some cooked greens beans, peas, carrots, celery, spinach, sweet potatos ..

grind the cooked chicken up in a food processor or shred it or cut it small.. mix everything together.. for added nutrients and flavor, add some chopped up apples or frozen blue berries. u can buy the blueberries from Walmart for $7 for a large bag that u can get 20 servings from..

U can also add a bit of cooked brown rice to the mixture..

stir all this up in a large bowl and then freeze in one cup servings in baggies or freezers containers... This is a vet approved recipe and I have yet to see a dog that does not love it..

We have 2 80-100 lb GSDs. I currently feed them raw top/bottom round roast, sweet potato, pumpkin, spinach, blueberries, yogurt and a variety of vitamins.

Was looking for something easier but after reading these reviews….. think I’ll just keep on doing my thing.

Freshpet - Chicken recipe from Costco gave my 13 y/o diarrhea

My 13 y/o poodle mix was totally healthy up until 2 weeks ago when she started getting nasty diarrhea. I have been giving her Fresh Pet chicken recipe in the big bag from Costco for several years now with no problems, so I figured this could not have caused it.

But now I am sure that it is, as I have removed everything from her diet except this, and she still has it.

But when I just give her pumpkin and rice, it clears right up. Don't feed your pooch this animal poison!

The company has not contacted me. They are choosing to ignore

Original review updated Apr 26, 2025
I feed my dog freshpet for years. Since the recall in 2022 the food has not been the same.

My baby passed within two weeks from kidney failure salmonella poisoning. He started having seizures, vomiting, yellow, bloody diarrhea, refuse to eat. Those were the worst two weeks of my life. I would never recommend freshpet.

It has an ingredient that causes cancer over time. It was recalled in 2022 and I was told there has been another one beginning of this year 2025. I miss my best friend so much. I miss his smell, his smile, his wagging tail, he cuddles, his comfort, his company, his charming ways.

I hope he is making friends in heaven. He had so much life in him. It definitely wasnt his time to go. He ate a bad batch of food that took him out.

On Reddit and TikTok many other dog parents have lost their dog the exact same way and all were given freshpet.

Please research and highly consider before giving this to you fur baby. If I could turn back the hands of time I would of stayed away Cry

Dangerous dog food

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I had bought the fresh pet food at Walmart for my dog since they claimed it was good for digestion. Within 5 days my dog got severe diarrhea, and serious digestive health problems.

I threw the rest of the food out, and only fed my dog rice and chicken for two weeks before my dog could rest at night and have normal bowel movements. I would never buy that food ever again!!

Freshpet - Piece of Plastic found in Fresh Pet, Slice & Serve Roll
Updated by user Mar 30, 2025

Undecided

Original review Mar 28, 2025

I purchased FreshPet, a slice & serve roll from Walmart in North Myrtle Beach, SC. The food is very dense, so I always break it up into very small pieces as I am feeding a small dog.

This morning I found a 1/4 piece of blue plastic in the food. They have now lost my business and should consider themselves lucky I found this before my dog ate it.

Terrible food.

I believe to have caused pancreatitis in my chihuahua. Schnauzer experience vomiting as well.

Almost lost my dog.

Vet says do not feed fresh pet anymore. Too high of fat content.

Causing my dogs hair loss

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I started feeding my 12 year old shitzu this product about 1 month ago bc he has food bordem. He is now having patchy hair loss due to an allergic reaction from this food.

Itching head to toe. Please watch your pets carefully if you are feeding them this. Back to vet prescription science diet and home made chicken rice and carrots.

Never again will I feed my pet this. However, he loves the flavor.

Made puppy sick

Just started this a week ago. My puppy too got severe diarrhea and I noticed blood in his stool.

They are probably putting something in here that is poisoning the dogs.

Biological. Probably some wack scientist or other employee brining in biological pathogens.

Sick pet

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

After opening a role of beef & bison and giving our pup a slice (which hes been eating for like 5 years), he began vomiting. a week later he is finally out of the woods from vomiting, lots of bloody stools and all of the other awful symptoms you can think of (plus a massive vet bill.) Contacted freshpet and have not heard back, but we are giving up on it for now. This is the 3rd time this has happened with the food we thought the other times were a coincidence but it seems to be confirmed now :( Our vet has him on a bland diet and we are going to try purina pro plan :/

Dog Had a Seizure

My 6-year-old Doxie mix, who has had a perfect health record, had his first seizure after we recently switched to PetFresh. It was one of the scariest experiences of my life.

I thought he was going to die in my arms. There needs to be a class action lawsuit against these people.

They are killing our babies! A $250 vet bill to the emergency vet and lots of tears later, I am willing to bring hellfire on this company's reputation.

Fresh pet sensitive stomach

My dog is 14 years old and got a horrible UTI and was peeing blood. She lost 5 pounds in 1 week because she would not eat anything.

In desperation, I tried Fresh Pet Sensitive Stomach. She ate every bite and kept it down.

She has been eating it daily since February and is back to her normal self. She went to the vet recently and the vet said she is doing great!!
